Back in the Saddle Again — Hello and Welcome

By Diego Garcia III | editor of The Brownsville Beacon

Hello, and welcome. This is my second attempt at starting up The Brownsville Beacon. I decided to end the first version of the Beacon because I was on the fence about revealing my identity, and I thought it would be a good idea to publish my blog anonymously. I know now that was a mistake. I have taken the advice of other bloggers and decided to move forward with the blog. This time, I decided to publish the blog under my name.

I also ran a Facebook Group and a blog called Yesteryear's Brownsville.  I will incorporate some of those stories on here in an attempt to put all my interests — history and politics — under one blog.

This blog will be dedicated to the discussion of local history, politics, news, and opinion. I am not a professional journalist. I am doing this because I firmly believe Brownsville needs as many journalists as possible telling them about actual goings on here in town.

The Brownsville Herald is Brownsville's no more. It hasn't been for quite some time. It really is a pity the largest city south of Corpus Christi doesn't have a legitimate newspaper. I will do my best to remedy that lack of information. There are other well-established, longer-running blogs in town, and although I do not know any of the bloggers personally, I admire and respect most of them for what they've done. I hope to follow in their footsteps in providing another viewpoint on the events that are happening in our fair city.

I am not going to promise that I will present everything in an unbiased manner. People are biased by nature, and I will absolutely editorialize and share my opinion on all kinds of things. I will do my best not to attack anybody personally, and I will do my best to present everything in a respectful manner.

I love Brownsville.  I was born here, I was raised here, and I will die here. I have no desire to monetize this site, nor will I be taking any advertising by anybody. I will present the information that I see fit to present, and I will try to do so in a manner that informs and educates the people of Brownsville.

Welcome, and enjoy your stay.
